The Mind of Christ in the Midst of Uncertainty - 2020

This morning, as I spent time with God, I started telling Him how I feel about everything going on in our world. Everyone seems to have an opinion about everything and is unafraid to share it. With social media, it is even easier for everyone to share a piece of their minds (I think I will take a break from Facebook for a while!). Even science seems not to be accurate, and we hear multiple things about things that should “slow the spread” and then turn around and hear something different. We’re now told that if we don’t speak up about racism, then we are racists. I don’t know about you, but I don’t know what to do or think about anything right now! It seems like no matter what I do or say I will be wrong.

As I was praying, I thought of “the mind of Christ.” I need to have that mind! But what does it look like? Well, the Bible tells us all about it. I can't share all of it here, but I will give a few highlights.

God wants us to stand up for justice and be humble.

“He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” Micah 6:8 (NIV)

This is not our eternal home.

"Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.” Colossians 3:2 (NIV)

Think about the good stuff!

“Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.” Philippians 4:8 (ESV)

Love God above all else and then we can love our neighbor the right way. "Jesus replied: 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’” Matthew 22:37-38 (NIV)

When we love our neighbor, we want to share Christ with them, and Christ is always with us. “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28:19-20 (NIV)

Jesus has overcome the world and all the baggage in it; therefore, we can have peace. “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16:33 (NIV)
